Who says angels aren't there?'
In March 1991, Steve was diagnosed with CML. His doctor, Dr. John Parker of UNC Hospital made arrangements for Steve to come to the Hutchinson Center in Seattle for a bone marrow transplant.
Steve, now 39, received his new marrow Oct. 29, 1991, from a 31-year-old lady from Amsterdam, Holland.
Thanks to the special care at Fred Hutchinson and the help of our lord, Steve is now in his seventh year after transplant. He still is having problems with graft-vs.-host but is managing his life to enjoy every day working at S.H. Basnight and Sons.
Dr. Mary Flowers has followed Steve for seven years. We have come back to Seattle each year for checkups and vacations.
We love Seattle, Fred Hutchinson and all the staff who have helped us survive this difficult period in our lives.
Thank you, Dr. E. Donnall Thomas, for your wonderful services to so many patients over these past years. Who says angels aren't there to brighten our hopes and lives? You certainly are truly one of them.
Our family can't thank you enough. We plan to be at your dedication on June 4. We love all of you Fred Hutchinson people.

"DR. AND MRS. Thomas, you, your staff and wonderful facility are responsible for these happy, smiling faces," says the Fran and Maury Abrams family, of Encino, Calif.
