Disciplinary Policy

The goal of discipline is helping the child gain self-control through learning appropriate behaviors rather than forcing the child to conform to adult standards. We have found that children can be disciplined in a manner that enables them to deal with other children effectively, without the use of harsh words or physical means. We often re-direct inappropriate behavior and use positive discipline prior to acknowledging negative behaviors. Hutch Kids staff do not use spanking or hitting or the use of harsh words as a means of discipline, neither will food, rest or toilet activities be used as any part of discipline. It is the expectation of HK staff to refrain from using "time out" as a form of disciple or behavior management.

Parents will be notified when their child has been affected by an aggressive act of another child (i.e., biting, hitting, etc.). The identity of the aggressor will not be disclosed; however, staff will continue to work with the aggressive child and their parents to redirect the child's behavior in socially acceptable ways.
