Cim Edelstein of COMPASS wins PHS' Margaret Farwell award

Cim Edelstein, project manager for the Comprehensive Center for the Advancement of Scientific Strategies (COMPASS) coordinating center and a 13-year veteran of the Public Health Sciences Division, has been awarded the seventh annual Margaret T. Farwell Outstanding Staff Career Contributions Award.

Dr. Ross Prentice, division director, called her "a global thinker who has been a major resource for COMPASS."

Reading from several nomination letters, Prentice praised Edelstein's superb people skills, can-do attitude and commitment to ethical research practices.

The award was presented at the March 28 PHS All-Staff Meeting, which included a presentation from Scott Rusch, director of Facilities and Operations administration, who spoke about planning for the new PHS building on the Day Campus. Dr. David Thomas of the Epidemiology program gave an overview of his career with a presentation entitled "36 Years of International Epidemiology."

Farwell-award recipients are selected each year from PHS staff based on outstanding level of service. It is named for the late first administrator of the division.

Accepting the award, Edelstein expressed appreciation for her colleagues.

"Nothing is accomplished without teamwork," she said. "That makes my job easy."
