Giambi, 29, received the 2000 Hutch Award at last night's Seattle Post-Intelligencer Sports Star of the Year Awards Banquet at the Seattle Sheraton.
Giambi also spoke at yesterday's third annual Hutch Award luncheon, a fund-raiser for the Center held for the first time at the Safeco Field.
The Hutch Award annually honors a player who exemplifies the character and performance of the Center's namesake, Fred Hutchinson, who as a pitcher won 95 games for the Detroit Tigers and as a manager led the Cincinnati Reds to the 1961 World Series.
Giambi was the American League's most valuable player in 2000, batting .333, with 43 homers and 137 RBI. The 6-3, 235-lb. Oakland A's first-baseman also donated time and money to many off-field causes, including Operation Gumby, which deals with the tough issue of bed-wetting, and CaP Cure, which fights prostate cancer.
