Alcohol, drugs and youth

Statistics indicate that a growing number of young people is experimenting with drugs. Some teens use drugs to escape their problems. Others do it for acceptance by their peers. Teen alcohol and drug prevention is a big concern for many adults. Following are some tips on prevention and recognizing signs of drug use.

Prevention tips

Warning signs of alcohol or drug use

Keep in mind that coming home with green hair and wild clothing doesn't necessarily mean that your teen is using drugs. However, you should always stay aware, make note of changes and look for further signs. The best way to assess a situation is by communicating openly with your teen. Ask about the changes and listen carefully.

For more information, refer to the resources listed in your Yellow Pages under "Drug Abuse & Addiction Information.". You can also call your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at 800-888-CARE. An EAP counselor is available 24 hours a day to provide confidential assistance (typically at no cost to you).
