Recognizing the Center's "year-after-year, outstanding leadership" in expanding its impressive programs to reduce commuting trips, the non-profit Seattle Commuter Challenge last month inducted the Hutch and four other area organizations in its Diamond Ring.
The other four inductees are CH2M HILL, Safeco, University of Washington and Weyerhaeuser.
A review panel of transportation experts and business leaders made the selections among the nearly 600 King County work sites affected by the state's Commute Trip Reduction law. Award winners were recognized Jan. 18.
The Hutch has won the Diamond Award from Seattle Commuter Challenge for several years in a row. Such winners implement innovative programs to reduce trips, including incentives for motivating employees to carpool or vanpool, work compressed schedules, telework and ride the bus or bicycle or walk to work. Several also institute efforts to effectively manage employee parking.
"If the Puget Sound region is going to effectively tackle traffic congestion, we need more companies to follow the outstanding examples set by Diamond Award winners," said Cathy Cole, the organization's executive director.
"Each Diamond Award winner understands that by providing employees with transportation solutions that work, a business can improve its financial bottom line, keep our economy moving forward and preserve our community's quality of life."
