Sister-city science

Brief
August 1, 2002

Dr. Lee Hartwell (second from right), center president and director, meets Tuesday morning in the Thomas Building with Tatsuo Yada, mayor of Kobe, Seattle's sister city in Japan. Accompanied by officials from Kobe and the Institute of Biomedical Research and Innovation, the Japanese group talked with Hartwell about scientific collaboration and took a half-hour tour of Fred Hutchinson at the end of a five-day visit to Seattle in celebration of the cities' formal relationship, which began in 1957. Members of the delegation rode in the Seafair Torchlight Parade, attended a Seattle Mariners game and visited the Children's Museum, among other activities.
