All in the family

Brief
December 19, 2002

Cancer Prevention Research Program staff and faculty (from left) Vanessa Lamb, Bev Silver and Dr. Beti Thompson pack toys, clothes, shoes, books, towels, diapers and toiletries for four needy YMCA families with a total of 25 members earlier this month. The CPRP contribution is an example of departmental charity throughout the center during the winter holidays. "About 100 of us - in the second-floor clinic and on floors 6, 7, 8 and 9 - get involved in this every year," said Lamb, who has organized the drive since 2000. "It's totally voluntary, but it brings us together, and it's fun going shopping. A lot of people are really generous, some of them taking on whole families. It's just a way to give and remind people that's what the holiday is all about." Photo by Clayton Hibbert
