Online, Outlook directories aim to standardize name references

Brief
December 19, 2002

Be prepared for more consistent handling in the way the center lists faculty and staff names in three databases: the global e-mail address book, the online directory and the printed directory.

The project, directed by Human Resources and Information Technology, aims to standardize name references and interfaces for ease of use.

In the global e-mail address book, accessed through Outlook, your primary name within the Human Resources database will be used. If, however, you have a preferred name on file, this information will instead be passed to the address book.

Degree information such as M.D. or Ph.D. will not be included, but suffixes such as "Jr." or "III" will be appended to the name.

The online directory, accessed by clicking "directory" at the bottom of every center Web page, will include all available information on file (including degrees). Nicknames or preferred names will appear, but they will be found in parentheses.

The printed directory will continue to reflect a nickname or preferred name if one is on file, plus any degrees or suffixes.

If you want to update directory information, send an e-mail message to ESCmail@fhcrc.org.
