Information Technology is upgrading PCs in the Clinical Research and Administration divisions to a new platform that features Windows 2000 Professional.
All upgraded PCs will receive a full install of Microsoft Office 2000 (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook), Acrobat Reader, McAfee Antivirus, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Reflection and Winzip.
Shortcuts to common applications such as APPO and BudgeTrak also will be available. Additional applications will be installed as needed, by department.
Most departments have identified a coordinator with whom the upgrade team has been working. The coordinators are identifying PCs and special application or configuration requirements, coordinating deployment schedules and facilitating communication.
Deployment begins this month and will be complete by the end of July. Upgrades will occur in the evenings or over weekends to reduce the impact on daily activities, and PCs should be ready for use the next morning. Older PCs that cannot support Windows/Office 2000 will be replaced with new HDI models at no expense to the department.
Whether your PC is replaced or upgraded, all shortcuts, bookmarks, favorites, printer settings and items in the "My Documents" folder will be migrated. You will be notified several days in advance of your department's upgrade and given instructions and a description of what to expect.

The program is managed by Derek Walker, project manager, and sponsored by Tim Randall, desktop-support manager. Team members include Daniel Budiansky, project technical lead; Deb Herting, project coordinator; and Robbie Scherr, technical account services manager.
