Amalia Meier, research associate for for the center's Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention (SCHARP), admires a quilt depicting South African leader Nelson Mandela, keynote speaker at the recent International AIDS Conference in Barcelona. The quilt was conceived by Meier and Maureen Reiner, also a SCHARP research associate, and machine-appliqued and -quilted by a dozen SCHARP staff at the department's annual picnic. The quilt hangs outside Meier's office on the 11th floor of Met East. More info: 206-667-7514 or amalia@scharp.org. PHOTO BY TODD McNAUGHT
