More than 170 faculty and staff attended a Basic Sciences Division retreat Sept. 12-13 at Semi-ah-moo resort in Blaine.
The program included short research presentations by faculty and a poster session that featured projects conducted by postdocs, graduate students and technicians.
Dr. Steve Block from the departments of biology and applied physics at Stanford University was one of two invited speakers at the retreat. Block, a bioterrorism expert, gave a talk entitled "Living nightmares: Facing the growing threat of bioterrorism."
Dr. Gerald Pollock, professor of bioengineering at the University of Washington, presented a talk entitled "Cells, Gels and the Engines of Life."
