Sept. 11 remembrance services, silent labyrinth walks coming to Day Campus, Met Park East
To observe the first anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack in New York City and Washington D.C., the center and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance have scheduled remembrance services and labyrinth walks.
Musicians will perform 15 to 30 minutes prior to each service, during each service and for 15 minutes after each service. The services also will include readings, silence and a symbolic ritual.
The silent labyrinth walks, each anticipated to take 15 minutes to an hour to complete depending on individual pace, will be held the same day at two times and sites:
The walks can be entered anytime during those spans.
"All of us, regardless of the form and content of our spirituality, are invited to walk together on Sept. 11," said the Rev. Stephen King, the Alliance's director of pastoral care, in reference to the labyrinth walks. "Our intents and experiences may vary.
"Walk the labyrinth in silence to remember and honor the victims of Sept. 11, their loved ones and the rescue teams; reflect upon how your own life has changed; discern how you can continue to make a difference in today's world; face the emotions that will again be evoked; be part of a diverse caring community walking together; be renewed personally and/or spiritually; be open to the unexpected; and connect with history and other pilgrims."
At 8:46 a.m., the exact anniversary of the first airliner's collision with the World Trade Center in New York, Mozart's Requiem will play at the Alliance clinic.
Easels will be available for faculty, staff, patients and volunteers to write memories, emotions, thoughts, fears and hopes from life during the past year.
