More than 850 community leaders raised a record $13.5 million for center research Saturday, Dec. 6, at the 28th annual Hutch Holiday Gala, hosted by the Grace Heffernan Arnold Guild at Sheraton Seattle Hotel Towers. The amount included a $10 million gift-the largest ever to Fred Hutchinson-from Don Listwin, a center trustee and head of the Listwin Family Foundation (see story on page 4). The black-tie event, which is the center's largest fund-raiser, included live and silent auctions. Among the auction items was a Nobel laureate dinner for six with Drs. Lee Hartwell and E. Donnall Thomas and their wives.
Moneytree, Inc. matched bids on each live auction item that reached fair market value with a $2,500 donation and with $5,000 for 10 select items. Turner Construction, Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership and Costco Wholesale were premier sponsors of the gala, each donating $25,000.
