Morgan Hargraves, a junior at Redmond High School, gets a firsthand glimpse of brain-cancer research in Dr. Jim Olson's lab in the Clinical Research Division. As the grand- prize winner of the Bon-Macy's Follow a Leader essay contest, Hargraves received the opportunity to spend a day with Olson, described in her essay as the leader she would most like to follow, and $1,000 to help pay for her future education. In addition, her school will receive $5,000. The contest, now in its 10th year, provides Washington state students in grades 4 through 12 with the opportunity to explore career possibilities. Olson's laboratory conducts research on brain development, brain cancers and degenerative diseases of the nervous system.
