Nutrition scientist joins PHS faculty

A nutrition scientist with interests in prostate and colorectal cancer will join the Public Health Sciences Division faculty next spring.

Dr. Ulrike Peters, currently a postdoctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute, studies the associations between nutrient levels, genetic variation and cancer risk. Studies she has conducted include investigating the association of genetic variation in selenoproteins and serum selenium levels with colorectal and prostate cancer and analyzing the levels of vitamin D and genetic markers of vitamin D metabolism in relation to prostate-cancer risk. She also develops methods to measure serum levels of vitamins and minerals for dietary studies.

Peters has a master's degree in public health from the University of North Carolina and a Ph.D. in nutrition from the University of Kiel in Germany.
