Department of Defense funds for ovarian-cancer research

The Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program invites proposal applications from researchers conducting innovative research directed toward eliminating ovarian cancer. A total of $10 million is available to fund proposals in two categories.

Idea Development Awards are intended to stimulate and reward innovative research ideas that may be viewed as high risk but have the potential for high gain in scientific and clinical knowledge. These proposals should start, create or introduce a unique or unusual approach to the study of ovarian cancer. The research may represent a new paradigm, challenge existing paradigms or investigate an existing problem from a new perspective. All independent investigators are eligible to submit proposals.

New Investigator Research Awards are targeted to independent established scientists or clinicians who have limited to no experience in ovarian-cancer research or to independent investigators at the junior faculty level who are within five years of their last training position.

Proposals in either category must address at least one of the following research areas: etiology/tumor biology, preclinical development of targeted therapies (excluding clinical trials) or molecular imaging/vital imaging of ovarian cancer.

The electronic proposal submission deadline is 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Feb. 3, 2004. Detailed information can be found at the Dept. of Defense Web site: http://cdmrp.army.mil.
