Installation begins this week for readers of proximity cards

Proximity-card readers that require the use of new ID cards will be installed in the Thomas, Weintraub and Hutchinson buildings beginning this week and will continue to be installed in other Day Campus buildings over the next 10 weeks.

Installation is set to begin in the Yale and Hutch Kids Child Care buildings Thursday, March 13; in the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance clinic on Tuesday, March 25; and in the Aloha and Fairview buildings on Tuesday, April 1.

New readers will be marked with a bright-yellow tag. Because this is a phased process, faculty and staff will need to keep both their new and old cards with them until all of the readers are swapped out.

"Remember to hold the old and new cards at least six inches apart while using the card readers," said Scott Ingalls, senior project manager for Facilities Planning and Construction. "If both cards are presented at the same time or in close proximity, the old card interferes with the new card."

Those who have not obtained new ID cards can do so from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Security office on the first floor of the Yale Building.
