Dr. Yau-Huei Wei (left), director general of the Department of Life Sciences at the National Science Council of Taiwan, joins Dr. Lee Hartwell, center president and director, in inking a Jan. 21 memo of understanding between the council and Fred Hutchinson to pursue biomedical research by bringing Taiwanese scientists to the center. The ceremony highlighted a day in which a seven-member delegation Taiwanese scientists and four U.S.-based officials from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office met with Hartwell and scientists from the center's four scientific divisions and toured shared resources.
