Volunteer for Colossal Colon Tour

Volunteers are needed to staff stations, answer questions and offer stories of colorectal-cancer survival during the Colossal Colon Tour’s Seattle Center appearance, July 9-12. The 4-foot long, 4-foot-high crawl-through replica of the human colon is touring the country to educate the public on colorectal-cancer. Along with the Colossal Colon, the Tour features nine hands-on, interactive activity stations covering topics on colon and rectal anatomy, colorectal-cancer prevention, early detection and treatment. All of the stations are designed to be family-friendly.

Volunteers are needed to hand out information to visitors, guide visitors around the exhibit and other simple tasks. All volunteers will receive a T-shirt.

Volunteer health care professionals and colorectal cancer survivors are also needed to share their stories and answer basic questions about anatomy, colon and rectal cancer prevention, early detection and treatment.

The Colossal Colon is the creation of Molly McMaster, a 27-year-old cancer survivor, with help and support from the clinical and educational staff of the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls, N.Y. The colon is dedicated to the memory of Molly’s friend, Amanda Sherwood Roberts, who lost her battle with colon cancer at age 27. The Colossal Colon will appear at the Seattle Center parking lot at the corner of Fifth Avenue North and Harrison Street. To volunteer, call Enica Lewis at 703-837-3684 to schedule your time slot or e-mail her at enica.lewis@preventcancer.org.
