Worthy of winning a Wyckoff?

Nominations invited for center’s annual esprit de corps award

By GALEN GOFF

Do you know someone who gets the job done with dedication, enthusiasm and commitment—someone worthy of winning an award? If so, pick up a nomination form today and submit their name for the 2004 T. Evans Wyckoff Esprit de Corps Award.

Named for one of the center’s most enthusiastic and dedicated supporters and a longtime trustee, the late T. Evans Wyckoff, the award recognizes staff members who embody the institution’s esprit de corps.

“Fred Hutchinson is filled with exceptional people who are dedicated to the center and its mission. To be recognized as one of those staff members means a great deal to me,” said Bre Jefferson, manager of administration and operations for Grant and Contract Administration and 2003 Wyckoff winner.

Nomination forms, available online and in the Arnold Library, will be accepted through July 18. Include in the nomination a description of your nominee’s exemplary qualities and three additional references, including the nominee’s supervisor, said Myra Tanita, executive vice president and chief operating officer.

A subgroup of the Employee Advisory Committee will sift through the nominations and select a winner whose name will be announced at the center barbecue on September 12. In addition to the recognition, the winner will receive free parking for one year (if the winner already pays for center parking) or a gift certificate.

A founding member of the board of trustees, T. Evans Wyckoff served the center for 22 years with a spirit of dedication, outstanding teamwork, enthusiasm, can-do-it-ness and commitment. When a facilities planning committee was created 16 years ago to focus on finding a location and planning a new center campus, Wyckoff was unfailing in his participation and support.

“Evans was a person who could always be counted on to put the needs and best interests of the center before anything else when action on his part was needed,” said Guy Ott, vice president of Facilities and Operations, who worked on the planning committee with Wyckoff for many years.

“He never shied away from facing difficult issues and major challenges head-on and always acted in a very supportive manner after being fully informed and giving the matter thoughtful consideration.

The board of trustees established the award following Wycoff’s death in 1999.
