A pitch from 1937

Brief
March 6, 2003

Diana Tepp, program assistant in Transplantation Biology, holds a 1937-vintage baseball containing the hand-printed names of center namesake Fred Hutchinson and other players on that year's Franklin High School city championship team. This week, Tepp donated the ball, which she had obtained long ago from a friend, to the center. It was not uncommon in the early 20th century for teams to commemorate their seasons with hand-printed baseballs. Autographed baseballs became more popular in later years. External Relations is happy to accept Fred Hutchinson-related baseball memorabilia for possible future display. Photo by Clay Eals
