Dr. James McDougall, investigator in the Human Biology and Public Health Sciences divisions, died of cancer at his home Saturday, Sept. 13. He was 72. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, in Pelton Auditorium and televised in Sze East/West and rooms B1-072/074/076. A reception will follow in the Double Helix Caf?.
McDougall joined the center in 1978 and led some of the earliest studies that demonstrated the key role of human papilloma virus in cervical cancer. More recently, he helped to define the molecular changes associated with tumor formation in virus-infected cells.
McDougall is survived by his wife Dr. Denise Galloway, also of Human Biology and PHS; their two daughters; four children from a previous marriage; and his brother in England.
