Names: Jim Walker, Radu Nicoara, Kenny Lind
Commute from: Issaquah Highlands Park and Ride
Alternative commuting choice: Carpooling
Period of time: Seven years
Why I chose to commute this way: "The carpool lane is less crowded so driving (one-third of the time) is less stressful and I save a half-hour commuting time each day," Walker said. "In seven years, I have reduced mileage on my car by 46,700 miles. I have avoided buying 2,310 gallons of gasoline and have reduced parking costs by $4,620 (covered parking cost $10 per month instead of $65). I've saved $13,900 in gas, car maintenance and insurance costs, for a total saving of $18,500. Plus the environmental benefit is tremendous. By not using this extra gasoline, I have reduced carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere by 22.6 tons. This does not include the amount others in our carpool save."
