Center, Alliance staff contribute to statewide comprehensive cancer control plan

The Washington State Department of Health has published a comprehensive statewide plan to reduce the burden of cancer, thanks in part tothe participation of several faculty and staff members from the center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. The plan was a collaborative effort of the department's Comprehensive Cancer Control Partnership, a statewide planning group with participants representing a variety of organizations and constituencies involved in cancer prevention and control. The group's mission is to reduce cancer incidence and mortality, increase equity in access to appropriate cancer care and prevention, maximize quality of life of those with cancer, promote research and educate the public on cancer issues.

Fred Hutchinson and Alliance contributors to various aspects of the plan included: Dr. David Thomas, investigator in the Public Health Sciences Division; Dr. Fred Appelbaum, director of the Clinical Research Division and the Alliance; Dr. Karen Syrjala, investigator in Clinical Research; Dr. Marc Stewart, Alliance medical director; Linda Gainer, vice president of External Relations; Winona Hollins-Hauge, community outreach manager; Annie Gugiu, community relations manager; Katherine Briant and Carrie Nass, Cancer Information Service; and Madelaine Buelt, executive administrator at the Alliance.
