January 8, 2004

Dr. E. Donnall Thomas, director emeritus of the Clinical Research Division, was honored for his contributions to the field of bone-marrow and stem-cell transplantation in a new edition of the field's major reference book, released this month by Blackwell Publishing.

Thomas' name was added to the title of the third edition of the book, "Thomas' Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation." Dr. Fred Appelbaum, director of the Clinical Research Division, Dr. Karl Blume of Stanford University and Dr. Stephen Forman of City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center, edited the book. Thomas, Blume and Forman were editors of the two earlier editions. The new edition contains an introductory tribute to Thomas and chapters authored by more than 30 scientists and nurses in the Clinical Research Division.
