Environmental Health and Safety and Human Resources promote nearby outdoor activities designed to get everybody 'Healthy at the Hutch'
Kayaks, bicycle and running trails, oh my! A wealth of resources for a healthy break awaits you on the shores of nearby Lake Union.

July is National Parks and Recreation Month, and while many folks pack their cars and head for the hills, others are escaping into outdoor activities right in our own back yard.
Environmental Health and Safety has teamed up with Human Resources to provide information on a quarterly basis dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles. This first piece is designed to help you walk a healthier path with activities and resources near Fred Hutchinson's campus.

A premier resource for recreational information, activities and resources.
Seattle Parks and Recreation offers a free park guide for carrying in your backpack or glove compartment. The guide shows park features (picnic tables, restrooms, children's play areas, etc.) and complete listings of ramps for motorized boats, boating class and rental sites, fishing piers, lawn bowling facilities, special gardens, community centers, golf courses, off-leash areas for dogs, environmental education centers, swimming pools, summer beaches and visual and performing arts centers. Boat/canoe/kayaking activities
- Center For Wooden Boats

Rents small rowboats and sailboats for use on Lake Union.
- Dragon boat racing
Located at Kenmore Air on the southwest end of Lake Union (across the street from Marriott Courtyard Hotel).
Dragon boat racing is the fastest growing team sport in the world. The 41-foot long boat holds 20 paddlers, a drummer and steersperson. The Tacoma Dragon Boat Association has started a new team on Lake Union. Newcomers are allowed to participate for free up to three times before needing to pay for membership.
- University of Washington's waterfront activity center
Located on Lake Washington, near southeast corner of Husky Stadium parking lot, off Montlake Boulevard. Canoes and rowboat rentals, 206-543-9433.
Resources for running and walking
Seattle Parks and Recreation's running resources
- Burke Gilman Trail
A 12.5-mile asphalt pathway with gravel side path much of the way, from Gas Works Park north to Kirkland.
- Running along Fairview Avenue
Quiet roadway running along the eastside of Lake Union from Newton Street to the University Bridge. For additional road running, continue south from the University Bridge along Fuhrman and Boyer Avenue beside Portage Bay.
- Running along Interlaken Boulevard
About two miles of winding, quiet hillside roadway through forest and woods, from Roanoke Park to Washington Park/Arboretum.
- Running along Lake Union
It is 10,000 meters (6.2 miles) around the lake. Start at Gas Works Park and cross the Ship Canal on the University and Fremont Bridges.
- Gas Works to Golden Gardens
About six miles along the Lake Washington Ship Canal and Shilshole Bay.
- Lake Washington Boulevard
About six miles from Seward Park to the Arboretum and seven miles from Seward Park to Madison Park via McGilvra Boulevard. The first three miles are on asphalt.
- Queen Anne Hill
Four-point three miles of Scenic Drive loop with paved road, parking strips and fantastic city views.

Bicycling resources
- Cascade Bicycle Club
A nonprofit organization focused on creating a better community through bicycling. Cascade Bicycle Club offers a variety of services including club rides, bicycle safety and education courses, and advocacy.
- The Seattle Bicycle Club
A nonprofit organization dedicated to the interests of recreational cycling enthusiasts, 206-444-4075.

A nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation, exploration and enjoyment of outdoor activities and wilderness areas, 206-284-8484.
- Rodger tennis courts in Eastlake
Third Avenue West and West Fulton Street, 206-684-4077. Features two outdoor tennis courts located in Eastlake. Outdoor lighting is not available.
