More than 850 local and national business leaders gathered June 12 to honor Saltchuk Resources, Inc., its founders and the generosity of the business community at the annual Fred Hutchinson Business Alliance dinner. The event generated more than $1 million in donations from the business community to support the center's research.
Saltchuk founders Stanley H. Barer, Michael D. Garvey, Frederick M. Goldberg, Leonard H. Shapiro and Everett W. Trout received the Thomas Medal on behalf of their 15 companies and 4,700 employees.
The award recognizes outstanding business leadership, vision and service to the community. The Saltchuk companies annually contribute 2 percent of operating income to medical, social, youth, education, arts and environmental services in 22 states, Puerto Rico and Canada.
