Career day for postdocs, grad students March 22 in Pelton

Are you considering a career at a biotech company? Curious about what a teaching job is really like? Learn more about these and other scientific career possibilities at a career symposium on Monday, March 22 in Pelton Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Student Postdoc Advisory Committee (SPAC) and is open to any center postdoc or graduate student.

The tentative schedule is:

10 to 11:15 a.m.: "Research in the Biotechnology Industry"
Panelists from local biotechnology companies will discuss their experiences at the bench and in the boardroom.

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Career fair and lunch.
Representatives from local companies and institutes will be available to discuss career opportunities for graduate students and postdocs. Lunch will be provided to all registered participants

1 to 2:15 p.m. "Research in academia"
Panelists from a variety of settings will compare and contrast conducting research at different types of public and non-profit institutions.

2:15 to 3:30 p.m. "Careers in education"
Local educators will discuss what it is really like to teach and the types of teaching opportunities available.

3:30 to 3:45 p.m. Break

3:45 to 5 p.m. "Nontraditional careers"
Panelists from a variety of disciplines, including patent law, bioinformatics and laboratory management, will discuss their career paths.

Participation in this event is currently limited to postdocs and graduate students at the center. Others will be added to a waiting list and notified if room is available.
