Brief
Dr. Bob Eisenman, investigator in the Basic Sciences Division, will speak at today's Perspectives in Science seminar on, "Dissecting the Myc Oncogene: A Walk Through the Garden of Forking Paths," at 4:30 p.m. today, in Pelton Auditorium. A reception will follow in the Double Helix Caf?.
Eisenman is a leader in the field of oncogenes, aberrantly regulated genes that cause cancer. His studies on a gene known as myc are seminal to scientists' understanding of how normal cells become cancerous. Eisenman's work has paved the way for the discoveries of other oncogenes that work by interacting with DNA. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
