U.S. Sen. Patty Murray and several other dignitaries helped officially dedicate Fred Hutchinson's new Public Health Sciences building on April 16. Murray was joined by Dr. Lee Hartwell, Fred Hutchinson president and director; Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels; Carl Behnke, chair of the center's board of trustees; and Dr. John Potter, director of the Public Health Sciences Division.
More than 1,000 people — including U.S. Reps. George Nethercutt and Jay Inslee — toured the new facility and learned about the center's research during open houses April 16 and 17. In her dedication remarks, Sen. Murray described the building, which finally unites the center's staff on one campus, as "bringing the best researchers of our time together to reach new heights in lifesaving research."
