PHS all-staff focuses on funding, faculty and AIDS documentary

Public Health Sciences Division faculty and staff attended the division's all-staff meeting on Nov. 9. The gathering featured a screening of the film, "A Closer Walk," with a follow-up discussion led by Dr. Ann Duerr, PHS and Clinical Research Divisions and associate director of scientific support for the HIV Vaccine Trials Network.
Dr. Mary Anne Rossing, PHS associate director, highlighted recent and future division developments, including:
- Forty new funding awards since March 2004, totaling $8.5 million, and seven renewal awards worth $7 million
- New faculty appointments, including Drs. Ulrike Peters, Gloria Coronado, Samir Hanash, Laura Beretta, Ying Chen and Li Qin
- Current faculty recruitment for a genetic epidemiologist, a biostatistician for the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and a joint recruitment with Group Health for a clinician-researcher
- All staff invited to a briefing on the center's four-year strategic plan on Dec. 14 in the PHS building
- New artwork installed between the fourth and fifth floors (near the stairway) of the PHS building
