Register for 2006 diversity visa lottery Nov. 4 through Jan. 7, 2005

The Department of State will accept 2006 diversity visa (DV) lottery applications starting at noon EST on Nov. 5, 2004 through noon EST on Jan. 7, 2005. To enter into the lottery, applicants must meet certain requirements and must electronically register during the above stated registration period on the Department's designated Internet Web site at: http://www.dvlottery.state.gov. The Immigration and Nationality Act allots 50,000 permanent resident visas on an annual basis to individuals from countries with low rates of immigration to America.

Individuals born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible for the DV-2006 lottery registration. For the DV-2006 registration, natives of the following countries are ineligible to apply, as they sent a total of more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. in the past five years: Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories and Vietnam.
