Brief
More than 180 faculty and staff attended a Basic Sciences Division retreat Sept. 20-21 at Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine.
Dr. Joan Steitz, professor of biophysics and biochemistry at Yale University, was one of two invited speakers at the retreat. Steitz's talk was entitled "Pre-mRNA Splicing: The Tie That Binds." Michael Lemonick, senior science writer for Time Magazine, gave a talk on "Writing about Science."
The program also included short research presentations by faculty and a poster session that featured projects conducted by postdocs, graduate students and technicians.
