Transportation Department 'zip code' commuter events will hook you up with carpools and help you win cash awards

Thanks to a grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), Fred Hutchinson and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance employees can win cash rewards for giving up your single-occupancy vehicle to commute to work. And the center's Transportation Department is making it even easier with a series of carpool and vanpool events in October and November.

Transportation will hold four events for employees living in different regions of the Seattle and Puget Sound areas, grouped by zip codes: north, south, east and peninsula. Each event will focus on forming new carpools and vanpools and adding new members to existing ones.

The "zip code" events will be held in PHS conference rooms M1-A303/A305/A307. Event dates are Oct. 14, 12:30-1:30 p.m.; Oct. 28, 12-1 p.m.; Nov. 4, 12-1 p.m.; and Nov. 16, 12-1 p.m. Employees living in the different zip code regions will receive an invitation to their respective event. If you can't attend the event for your region, you may attend any of the events to gather more information.

There will be with door prizes and snacks galore. Representatives from Metro will be there to promote Rideshare and answer questions.

Cash awards are available from the WSDOT Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) grant. Form a new carpool or vanpool and each participant receives a MasterCard gift card for $25 per quarter. Complete the vanpool driving course and receive a $50 gift card. Give up your center parking space for 90 days and receive a $100 gift card.
