Dawn Stephens, president of the Grace Heffernan Arnold Guild, presented a giant check to Fred Hutchinson last week for $4,600.192.01. Accepted by Dottie Thomas, research partner and wife of Nobel laureate Dr. E. Donnall Thomas, the check represented proceeds from the 29th annual Hutch Holiday Gala.
Held last December, the annual black-tie event featured live and silent auctions, dinner and dancing. More than 850 business and community leaders were in attendance.
The gala continues to be the largest fund raiser at Fred Hutchinson, raising more than $41.5 million since 1975. Proceeds from the 2004 gala will benefit the following research and patient/family programs: pediatric oncology, breast cancer, prostate cancer, Hutch School, Human Biology and Public Health Sciences divisions, lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma research, the Hartwell Innovation Fund, early detection/ovarian cancer research, The Gregory Fund, and other research equipment and patient needs.
