Anajane Smith receives top technologist award

Staff scientist Anajane Smith is the recipient of the 2005 Outstanding Technologist Award from the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI).

Smith, manager of both the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance's Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory and the Center's International Histocompatibility Working Group Genomics Lab, was selected for the annual honor based on her outstanding professional contributions. Smith is noted for her service to ASHI through committee work and presentations, as well as her scientific accomplishments in human leukocyte antigen (HLA) tissue typing for transplant patients. HLA helps determine whether a donor and recipient are good matches for transplantation.

Smith has worked for the Center for almost 26 years. She receives her award and a $1,000 cash prize in October at the ASHI annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
