Brief
After 16 years at the Hutchinson Center, Peggy Means, senior vice president of Strategic Development and Planning, will leave her position on Sept. 30. Means, the former chief operating officer, will continue to work with the Center as a consultant beginning Oct. 1.
A celebration to recognize Means' achievements will be held Sept. 22, at 5 p.m., in the Thomas/Weintraub Building Great Hall. Means will also be honored through the creation of the Peggy Means Leadership Development Fund.
"We will all miss Peggy's extraordinary leadership, strategic vision and role as adviser and mentor to many of us at the Center," said Dr. Lee Hartwell, president and director, in a message to faculty and staff. "After 16 years of service, we can also appreciate and support her desire to spend more time on her personal interests." Hartwell noted that Means' "tremendous contributions extend beyond the Center to the field of cancer research and the community at large."
Means began her career at the Hutchinson Center in 1989 and has since made an impact in many areas, from her role as Clinical Research Division administrator to her years as executive vice president and chief operating officer. Means was instrumental in the creation of the South Lake Union campus. She was also a driving force behind the formation of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and the Hutchinson Center/University of Washington Consortium. Under her leadership, joint efforts have led to a strong program in tumor research. Means serves on the boards of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Marsha Rivkin Center and is a founding member of the National Cancer Center Network.
The Peggy Means Leadership Development Fund will be created in her honor to support the training and education of junior scientists and managers in growing their leadership skills. If you are interested in contributing to this fund, please contact Adam Garren at (206) 667-2755 or agarren@fhcrc.org.
