For winter weather closures, call the new toll-free hotline

January 20, 2005

Now that the Seattle-area has had its first battle with snowy winter weather, the Environmental Health and Safety Department reminds employees that there is a new Emergency Information Hotline toll-free phone number: 1-888-667-2020. This new number is part of the center's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and may be utilized for other emergencies.

The policy for the center is to remain open during inclement weather except under the most extreme conditions. The hotline is updated daily at 6 a.m. Staff should assume the center is open unless the hotline indicates otherwise.

Certain essential-service areas — such as patient care, maintenance, security and animal-health resources — may have to keep operating even under severe weather circumstances. Essential-service staff must report to work on regular workdays when the facility is closed. Supervisors should discuss these requirements with essential-service staff.

Keep the new Emergency Information Hotline on hand at home and other places where you might call from in the case of a winter storm or other emergency.
