Brief
Dr. John Crowley, director of the Southwest Oncology Group's (SWOG) Statistical Center, was appointed to the scientific advisory board of the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) in February. Crowley is an investigator in the Public Health Sciences Division and chief executive officer of Cancer Research And Biostatistics, a Seattle nonprofit organization that jointly houses the statistical center with PHS.
SWOG is one of the largest of the National Cancer Institute-supported cancer clinical trials cooperative groups in the United States. The group conducts trials on a wide range of cancers, including multiple myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow for which there is currently no known cure.
The IMF provides information and services for patients with multiple myeloma. Crowley is the only biostatistician on the foundation's scientific board — recognition of his contributions to progress in fighting the disease.
