Hutch Kids, the nonprofit, employer-sponsored child-care facility for Hutchinson Center employees and affiliates, has just received renewal of accreditation, through April 30, 2010, by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The nation's largest professional organization of early childhood educators, the NAEYC sets professional standards that in many areas exceed licensing requirements in the state of Washington.

The accreditation process began with a self-assessment of the program and included observations by staff, parents and professional, independent validators.

The key components of the program at Hutch Kids include low child-to-caregiver ratios; relationships between families, children and teachers, which offer consistency and continuity; curriculum focused on the unique needs and interests of each classroom group; and staff training.

"We're excited to receive the accreditation notice," said Misti McKenna, classroom leader for the toddler team. "Anytime we reflect on what we do and why we do it, we're going to benefit. The accreditation process is a great tool for growth, and it's nice to be recognized for the quality of care offered at Hutch Kids."
