Public Health Sciences Division researchers recently traveled to Kyoto to participate in the third annual U.S./Japan Biostatistics Workshop on Oct. 7. The conference focused on statistical methods for cancer clinical trials and translational research.
The meeting reflected a long history of collaboration between Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and Japanese researchers, said Dr. John Crowley, principal investigator of SWOG and chief executive officer of Cancer Research and Biostatistics. Hutchinson Center presenters included Crowley and Drs. Mike LeBlanc, Robert Gentleman and Donna Ankerst.
"International collaborations are very enriching," Crowley said. "We learn a great deal from each other. The Japanese clinical investigators are making rapid progress in biostatistics and clinical and translational research."
The University of Kyoto and Kobe's Translational Research Informatics Center hosted the workshop. Last year's workshop was held in Seattle. The first conference was held in Kobe in 2003.
