Brief
Breast cancer touches our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and family. But, with early detection and sophisticated new treatments, it can be controlled and often cured. Towards this goal, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) is the title sponsor of KING 5's Cancer Free Washington — a yearlong campaign designed to teach the importance of cancer prevention and early detection. The series concludes this month with Jean Enersen's Healthlink special, "Breast Cancer: Winning the Battle." This one-hour program airs at 8 p.m., on KING 5. Friday, Oct. 14. The show will explore why the state of Washington has the highest rate of breast cancer in the country and will look at how medical experts are helping cancer patients live longer and healthier than the national average.
"Breast Cancer: Winning the Battle" will feature the latest cancer-fighting breakthroughs along with new technology that's detecting breast cancer early. An update on a new breast-cancer vaccine being developed in Seattle will be given. Other topics include family history, the discovery of the breast-cancer gene and ways women can dramatically lower their risk of breast cancer.
The special will also profile cancer survivors who are winning their battles against cancer, including an interview with Governor Christine Gregoire who reveals how running for governor resulted in the early detection of her cancer.
"Breast Cancer: Winning the Battle" will rebroadcast on KONG 6/16, at 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16, and on NorthWest Cable News, at 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20. As a program sponsor, the SCCA will run a series of 30-second commercials during the one-hour special and close to Jean Enersen's weekly Healthlink segments on the Wednesday evening news.
