Richard Shikiar joins HIV Vaccine Trials Network as chief operating officer

The HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) recently announced the addition of Dr. Richard Shikiar to the management team in the position of chief operating officer. Shikiar was most recently senior research scientist and chief operating officer at The Health Care Analytics Group of United BioSource Corporation.

"The core mission of the HVTN is to find a vaccine to protect against HIV infection. Hiring great people like Rich Shikiar facilitates our research through the development of efficient, effective operations," said Dr. Larry Corey, HVTN principal investigator. "Rich brings his expertise in both management and research to the HVTN, and we are sure that he will be an excellent addition to our management team."

Prior to joining The Health Care Analytics Group of UBC, Shikiar spent more than 15 years at the Battelle Memorial Institute. He holds a bachelor of science from the City College of the City University of New York, a master's in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana and a doctorate in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana. Shikiar is filling the position previously held by Banks Warden, who became the Center's vice president of planning and strategic development.

An international collaboration of scientists and institutions working to accelerate the search for an HIV vaccine by sharing trial results and facilitating parallel, concurrent testing, the HVTN is funded and supported by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The HVTN comprises more than 25 research institutions worldwide, coordinated from its headquarters at the Hutchinson Center.
