Research ethics, cinema science lecture Dec. 8

Does science in today's movies truly reflect the public's perceptions and anxieties about science and technology, or are the public's perceptions "Technicolored" by the portrayal of science in films? Learn more about the impact of fictional scientists during "Breaking the Public Trust: Scientific Research in the Cinema," an entertaining hour of film clips, popcorn and discussion about scientific integrity as represented in the cinema. Presented by Rosemarie Keenan, the lecture will be held Friday, Dec. 8, at noon in Pelton Auditorium.

Observing the behavior (and misbehavior) of fictional scientists may help shed light on some of reasons for the non-fictional stories of research misconduct in the headlines today, said Keenan, Public Health Sciences Division administrator.

Keenan's talk is open to all. Center-based postdoctoral fellows and graduate students who attend will receive credit toward the Research Ethics Education Program requirement. Contact Lora Lindsey at (206) 667-6109 for more information.
