Puget Sound Partners for Global Health announces availability of funds for pilot projects

The Puget Sound Partners for Global Health (PSPGH) announces the availability of awards for pilot projects in global health. PSPGH defines "global health" as diseases and/or health conditions that have both a larger burden in the developing world and have received inequitable attention.

Funding is available for up to $50,000, which includes a maximum of $7,000 (14 percent) of indirect expenses. Projects should be one year in duration. Preference will be given to new research directions, investigators who are not now working on global-health issues and/or new research collaborations.

How to apply

To apply, please submit a short research plan (four pages maximum) containing the following information:

To be eligible, the PI must be a faculty member at a nonprofit research institution in the Seattle area. Previously funded projects will not receive consideration. Preference will be given to PIs who have not previously received PSPGH funding. Applications must be submitted electronically by March 15, 2006. Notification of awards will be in mid-May with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2006.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation formed the PSPGH in 2003 and contributed $500,000 for pilot-project funding. This is the fourth year of funding for global-health research.

Details about the application process, forms and a complete list of proposal-evaluation criteria can be accessed online at www.pspgh.org. You can also receive information by contacting Rosemarie Keenan at (206) 667-4266 rkeenan@fhcrc.org.
