Epigenetics symposium June 9 in Pelton; posters sought
A symposium, "Epigenetics in Biology and Disease," will bring together local investigators to discuss the impact of epigenetics on research ranging from basic mechanisms of inheritance and development to disease etiology and public health on Friday, June 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Pelton Auditorium. The one-day conference aims to facilitate an exchange of ideas and techniques and to develop new research directions in epigenetics.
A poster session and reception follow the meeting. Posters are highly encouraged; space is still available.
Topics and speakers include:
- "Myc Goes Global," Dr. Bob Eisenman, Basic Sciences Division
- "The Paradox of Heterochromatic Genes," Dr. Barbara Wakimoto, UW
- "Mechanisms that Regulate Sequence-Specific DNA Methylation," Dr. Tim Bestor, Columbia University
- "Imprinted Genes and Metastable Epialleles: Epigenomic Targets Linking Prenatal Nutrition to Adult Disease," Dr. Randy Jirtle, Duke University Medical Center
- "Mixed Epigenetic and Genetic Models for Human Disease," Dr. Art Beaudet, Baylor College of Medicine
- "The Interaction of the Epigenome with the Genome," Dr. John Greally, Albert Einstein College of Medicine
- "Epigenetic Mechanisms of Embryonic Stem Cell Pluripotency," Dr. Brad Bernstein, Harvard Medical School
Drs. Steve Henikoff and Chris Kemp will co-host the symposium. The associate program heads of the Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington Cancer Consortium are the sponsors.
No registration is necessary. Lunch will not be served, but refreshments will be provided. To present a poster, contact Michelle Mudrock at (206) 667-1828 or mmudrock@fhcrc.org.
