Apply by March 24 for Molecular Diagnostics Program pilot funds

Pilot funds of up to $50,000 are available from the Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington Cancer Consortium's newly organized Molecular Diagnostics Program. Proposals are due March 24 and should represent a new collaborative project that involves a principal investigator who is a member of the Consortium.

The project period is six months to one year, with a report of accomplishments required afterwards. Priority will be given to proposals that meet the following criteria:

• Investigates molecular features relevant to risk assessment, early detection, disease classification for the purpose of predicting outcome or individualizing therapy, or that are relevant to monitoring of therapy response, disease recurrence or progression.
• Is interdisciplinary and involves innovative technologies for which there is evidence or preliminary data for its feasibility.
• Develops resources that have value for molecular diagnostics including infrastructures for tissue banking, development of reagents of broad utility for molecular diagnostics or development of informatics tools. Resource-development proposals should include documentation of a user base with letters of support.

Proposals should be three pages maximum (figures/tables and references can each take an additional page). On the cover page, include requested project information and an abstract that states the primary objective. The abstract should be written to be understandable by reviewers with diverse expertise. Include a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Biosketch in PHS 398 grant application format listing your current sources of funding and a one-line description of the primary goal of each funded grant. Faculty who are members of the Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington Cancer Consortium on the March 24 due date are eligible to apply.
