Center participates in statewide earthquake drill April 6

Brief

March 16, 2006

On April 6, the Hutchinson Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance will participate in the statewide DUCK, COVER and HOLD Earthquake Drill. As in previous years, between 9:45 and 10 a.m., a pre-alert announcement will indicate that the earthquake drill will be conducted in five minutes. That message will be followed by the actual alert.

At that time, we encourage you to imagine an earthquake is occurring and do the following:

The drill will continue with the activation of the emergency operating center and end at noon.

To make this exercise as realistic/beneficial as possible, you are requested to suggest possible events within your area of responsibility for inclusion in the scenario. This is a good time for section chiefs and emergency-support personnel to review their organization and plans. Often, it is what we do in preparation of a drill that is of greater value than what we do during the drill.

If you have ideas for the drill or need additional earthquake-preparedness information, contact Ron Clark, Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan coordinator and fire and life-safety program manager, at (206) 667-3475 or reclark@fhcrc.org.
