May 18, 2006

Dr. Peter Donovan, co-director of the University of California-Irvine Stem Cell Research Center and a UCI professor of developmental and cell biology and biological chemistry, will speak at a seminar hosted by the University of Washington School of Medicine on Thursday, May 25, 11 a.m.-noon. The lecture, "Keeping Human Embryonic Stem Cells on the Right Track," takes place in Turner Auditorium, Health Science Building, on the UW campus. A reception precedes the talk at 10 a.m.

Donovan's laboratory was one of the first to receive National Institutes of Health funding to study human-embryonic stem cells, and he serves on one of only two NIH study sections that reviews proposed studies on these stem cells. His research centers on the mechanisms regulating developmental potency in germ cells and stem cells.
